| From the Where2sing.com forum: Wow, Kev are you implying that I'm 'angry that someone else won' because they were better than me, and I should improve my singing? This from a guy who's never even met me, let alone heard me sing. How do you know if I even enter competitions? Didn't this start off as a pub pastime and hobby?
I just offered some ideas for those like our local who have made dramatic changes to their competition events. I likened it to a talent quest, albeit a singing one, in that prize money tends to attract well-rehearsed quest followers and offers little to the regulars. Indeed, it appears that many of the quest followers don't buy drinks.
In fact it could make quite a difference if a comp was about one, two or five songs and different genres. You can see this on Idol shows as some people have a very limited repertoire and some get caught out going off key when they move beyond their one precious song or style.
I avoid comp nights so I will keep my ideas to myself if you want to get violent about it.
