From the Where2sing.com forum:

re: quality of singing, with special reference to Chatswood. Johnny B is correct. Many good singers arrive long after we've gone home (we know from times we stayed late). Even those few objectively 'bad' singers (by the simple standard of way off-key, off-beat, or no lyrics) have often learned to please the crowd by doing catchy rhythmic songs and people genuinely like singing along and dancing to their performance. And, as I keep pointing out, KJs don't have to 'entertain' us with silly light shows and hammy patter. The opportunity to sing great songs ought to be enough to please most singers. Pole-dancing and lingerie waitresses have an entirely different theme and should not be associated with karaoke. We no longer associate jazz with brothels. It would be nice if karaoke got recognition as the current type of guitar around the campfire, player piano, and bouncing ball entertainment. I feel less urge to dust off the guitar now that I have karaoke disks and a handy local.
