From the Where2sing.com forum:

Wolf, you must sniff something when you read my posts. Live bands are completely different to karaoke, which is basically a 2 speaker system, like a HiFi. It can be as quiet or loud as the room requires. If it's so loud you can't order a drink, it's too loud. If it mushes you or has no beat, it's too quiet -simple.

As for your insulting innuendo that I have some phobia or past-use-by date about loud rock recordings and shows (as distinct from karaoke) it shows you as prone to ageist stereotype. If you worked with me I'd have your ass in court. I have done plenty of rock songs at karaoke and was performing live rock in Detroit decades ago. Indeed, our old band had a reunion last year. Our stuff was plenty loud and very similar to Thorpe, Rose Tattoo & other contemporaries.

I just enjoy the chance to do Hollywood, Broadway, orchestral & wall-of-sound songs at karaoke because it's something I could never do with guitars, however big the amp. I note that the late Marc Hunter of Dragon had a similar interest in doing American Songbook tunes like Moonlight in Vermont. I bought his album. I also liked his rock music. April Sun is one of my karaoke songs.

I will attack louts and hoons anyway I can. They're about as popular in the press at the moment as farts in lifts. Why drag karaoke down to the level of the musical equivalent of the blow up doll?
