From the Where2sing.com forum:

Thats true what every one says about crap shows.I my veiw if it is crap you will not go.I know of one host that will go into a pub while a decent show is going and try to get the job buy under cutting the price .If you are going to try and get a job then do it in business hours for 1..Dont do it while there is a gig already in there and if you are going to try and steal and gig then at least dont do it while someone is there trying to earn a buck.It is not the Australian way.

Now on the other hand some Pubs can not afford to pay to much for a Gig so there is room in the market for what you would call crap gigs.Eg Small counrty pubs and so on .If you are a KJ just starting out than you need to start small with basic gear and small song list. Some of the best KJ host started out this way.It does not make sense to invest tens of thousands in gear and songs unless you have the work so like any business you must start somewhere. If they are decent people with good skills in hosting and have some decent disc then why not give them a little bit of support. If they do it by the book they deserve every chance. If you have spent tens of thousands of dollars out of you own pocket to start up a show then just remember you had ten of thousands to start with..If you start a business from SCRATCH then all you started with was an itch.Any one that has a go at any business is doing just that HAVING A GO This is the OZZY way. There is room in the market for decent host out there and there is only so many fri sat nights you can do anyway..
