I agree with Believer, I really don't think it matters, if you advertise a competition without defined rules, you're opening it up for anyone to turn up, whether they are regulars or not. I think it's good to have variety at a competition... and if there are some excellent people, it's good to watch them and see how they perform to help improve yourself, it's always nice to have aspirations! If some hosts or judges have an 'issue' with new people turning up, it has been known that they favour their own regulars in a comp whether they are the best or not anyway, and if a venue is THAT good, people WILL come back whether a comp is on or not.
