Such issues really dictate what they use in movies - having worked on several movies when I was desperate for work some years ago, Producers had to think long and hard whether to sing 'Happy Birthday!' on film as the royalty payment then was AUD$35,000 (or something as ridiculously high as that) for the whole song or just a bar from it ... !!
I thought American Idol has a 'Country Night'. Would CCR be classified as 'Country'? I remember reading that even John Fogerty has copyright problems with CCR songs - IDOL may not be able to secure the rights - but then again, CCR songs are available as karaoke songs ....
Just had a peek at Wikiperdia's entry on Fogerty - CCR music is described as 'Swamp Rock' / 'Roots Rock' ... ???
LB: 'Inspirational Music' - Yes, if the AI contestants were individually moved by their song choices that night ... well ... none of them will lead exceptional lives ... Maybe 'You're The Voice' is the exception, as an inspirational song for some that is.
