| From the Where2sing.com forum: Kev: Losing the song slips was nothing more than a little sarcasmn on my part...;-) for the sake of making a point.....of course every venue is unique..... venues that attract only Karaoke singers (as many do) then I guess a different approach is required.... to a venue that attracts all and sundry .... the primary concern should be about entertainment and such a venue will not survive on a constant diet of very badly sung 'American Pies' .LOL.(pun intended)
Thats not to suggest that all singers need to be of Idol standard ....thats silly........however sometimes you just have to structure your show for the benefit of the majority.
As an example...we have a guy that sings(?) with us.........no disrespect meant to him ...but the fact is he is intellectually disabled.....he cannot read ....he doesnt sing his songs at all.... but grunts to certain parts he knows and jigs around to the music...he has a number of friends that come with him..all with varying degrees of similiar mental issues.....now whilst we allow them to sing a song early in the night when its quiet....later in the night when we have 100+ patrons all participating and enjoying the entertainment.......then in the interest of the majority ...you know the rest;-)
