From the Where2sing.com forum:

Gday guys,
I know most of you are hosts but wanted to get your view on this: in a competition recently at a Sydney pub, all details of the competition were given out on a piece of paper with the usual judging criteria included in it. As is usual for any comp, the comp chasers turned up for the heat, semifinal and final. After the judging had been scored one of the judges then announced the winners but before he did so he announced that the judging criteria included those that came to the club often (pretty much excluding the comp chasers from winning anything). One such comp chaser definitely deserved to win as this person was much better on performance and vocals than any of the other entrants. However, what do you think of this tactic by the host? This host had every opportunity to tell the comp chasers at the heat, semifinal or final about the 'actual rules'. When asked why she hadnt she said it would be rude to write that down and it was a general concensus that comps ran that way. Is it not rude to tell everyone the rules and allow them the opportunity to try their luck knowing them? I know many hosts do not like comp chasers so please give your fair and thoughtful opinion. I am just putting forward that all rules be transparent so that it is truly fair. Those comp chasers have supported the venue on 3 occasions and provided entertainment (on the nights I was there it was the comp chasers who were applauded by the locals more than any other for their abilities) but been shammed. Think about going to a store because they advertise on tv that they have something unbelievable on sale and then getting there and finding out you have to be a store member to purchase it? This was publicly advertised on where2sing with nothing about said 'regular bias' rules like you find with some comps ('you have to attend 3-4 heats etc)
What are your thoughts one and all?
