Ray - I agree with you that the written rules are the rules and I am personally embarrassed when someone is labelled 'Comp Chaser' or 'Pro' during competitons by regulars etc.
.
To discriminate or handicap anyone because they enjoy the challenge of competition is wrong!

By definition 'Competition' is a number of people competing for something and to 'Compete' is to strive against one another for a desired objective!

My point is simple if we choose to promote 'Competition' as a means to boost business then our objective must be to attract the best entertainment and be prepared to step outside and into the reality of such a promotion!

Rules should be rigid and simple, if regular attendances are required then that should be policed and if nescessary, points awarded, at no time should the derogatory term 'Comp Chaser' be associated with this rule.

The 'Competitions Competitors' should offer the best talent the individual can muster and those individuals must strive through competing, practice and rehearsal to be judged as the best!

So why should an individual who applies disciplines into their Karaoke Training (as would an athlete) be victimised or labelled at Competition level?

And why should regulars be insulted with or disappointed by judges decisions going the other way when all that is offered from their camp is the 'same old same old' I think we all need to wake up a bit and realise 'Comps' are about attraction and competitiveness and hopefully profitability for the venue that provides 'Regular Karaoke' for the 'Regulars'!!
