| From the Where2sing.com forum: This is a strange hobby indeed. We have someone complaining they only got to do 3 songs and on the other hand I get bagged for pointing out that we no longer get ANY songs at a sabotaged gig.
It's been a long time sing we got to do 3 songs in a night. Tonight we expect to do one song, at most. So, yes, it will probably be an 'old' song because I'd like my one song to be a good one. Most of our songs aren't chosen as 'old' but as 'popular' and, most importantly, written by leading songwriters for singers. They have at least been top 10 hits at some point so they could hardly be said to be obscure or some idiosyncrasy of my tastes, given that they sold millions. For example, take the Monkees. I was never a fan of the pseudo-group but their songs were were written by the likes of Neil Diamond. It's hard to go wrong with these songs. They're even listenable off-key because the sound track has some beat. But, American Pie - that's for flat-liners with few hints of gray in their CT scans who want to waste everyone else's time.
