From the Where2sing.com forum:

At my karaoke haunts, I have been doing a bit of loosely conducted research asking patrons that are nearby if they would like to have a sing sometime.

Following in order are the usual responses...
' Ha! I would have to be drunk! '
' I, (often when they have their partners nearby), really like listening to the music and the variety of singers.'
' No way housay, not a chance! '
' Only place I sing is in the shower'

If I am with friends, the ones who have not sung before, I will always encourage them to have a go. With lots of prompting, they usually do. I see a change in the person, one of confidence building, and often an inquisitive request of how they could do better.
Usual recommended and then put to practise improvements...
1. Try to at least know how the chorus goes, then how the song begins.
2. Microphone technique.
3. Timing with music.

I feel I am well qualified, as my performances are never spot on ..and the occassional major stuff ups especially as I try new songs. This gives most new singers confidence at least to have a go themselves.

As always, with humanity, there are those that hold karaoke at a great distance. Regulars who will call by the karaoke area to listen but their magor interest is to simply play the pokies and maybe listen to a couple of the performances

I guess they are bemused, or maybe amused, by my persistence, as I ask them again each week...' So, have you been practising to sing... you gonna sing this week? '

Comments welcome...
