| From the Where2sing.com forum: State of Origin: It doesn't say much for our 'sport' of karaoke when they cancel a long-running gig by a top-rated hosting team just because the game is on. Sure, in a small pub you can realistically do only one thing properly. However, a building like Chats RSL has innumerable areas that can co-exist with karaoke, particularly given that many singers watch the footy anyway. This is particularly heavy-handed, given that this is a free-to-air TV series event people can watch at home. The only excuse I can think of is shortage of staff but if there are plenty of punters, that will pay for the staff. I think it's more a snub by management at the karaoke which they sort of tolerate unless they can come up with any flimsy excuse to cancel or sideline it. Given that the Mayor is a karaoke enthusiast, you'd think it would have higher prestige. I hate to think it's our poor public image shown for what it is.
