From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Everyone who attended the Malaya on Sunday night, thought of keeping
right out of this one, but I just couldn't do that after reading post after
post.
I am not being diplomatic just trying to be truthful.

Firstly to Eric, I know by reading your posts that you can defend yourself
perfectly well, but I thought I might write from my perspective of things.
Thank you for putting the night together. It is not easy to do and you do
have a business to run which is your own livelyhood.
In regards to a perfect night, well who is capable of that with so many
different points of views and ideas.
Thank you to your waiters who organised a vegetarian dish for my daughter on
the spur of the moment, as I forgot to pre request this.
Thank you for allowing us to bring in our own wine without paying for
corkage.
Thank you for putting on the Karaoke when you don't normally do so on a
Sunday night.
You could not have put that together on Friday or Saturday with your regular
patrons and party crowds.

Marco, was not interested in doing the sound and I was not worried about
hosting on the night as I said before I was there to relax, sing and
socialise.
For various reasons some of my group left early, most of them had had a busy
weekend, so their objective was to eat, sing and go home early to be ready
to start a new week. I purposely did not invite just Karaoke people as we
could have been overrun with singers.
Tony bought his wife and family out for her birthday, as well as having a
niece down from Qld who had never heard him sing. So he was happy with two
songs, plus he had never tried Malaysian food. Except for him and his wife
the rest of their family left before dessert was served.

I had a good time socialising and tried to say hello and have a chat to
everyone there, except for Peter M who was singing when I sat at his table
and I also did not know Harry and Stanley. Met Ros and her daughter who
recognised us from having attended one of Peter M shows. Had a good chat
with Adam and Aidy, said hello to Dr John and Jo, Teresa & Vaughn, Rooster
and Christine and Ric, not to forget Peter, Sue and the little man, Daniel.
The night met my expectations of what it would or could be.

To Sue, Peter and Daniel,
I could see how you would be disappointed for the ones who know more about
your situation, that it was an effort for you to come out and especially
when you set up your gear and perhaps didn't get to showcase it as you
would have liked to. We have seen the gear so I wasn't paying much attention
but you did at least have it up whilst there were other patrons in the
restaurant and they could see a TV with a Xmas picture and K1 Karaoke
advertised.

I did enjoy Daniel's singing, he is a little charactor and I thought it was
very nice of Eric to play 'We are Australians' for Daniel, especially
mentioning all the trouble in Sydney at the moment. (Coming from South
Africa, I have first hand experience of racism, but that is another story on
its own.)
I won't comment on the microphone as Pete you will tell me to shut up as I
don't know what I am talking about. I am also so used to and happy singing
with my own microphone.

To everyone in regards to the sound, not necessarily agreeing with Eric on
his sound and as I was asked by someone if the sound was always the same on
the other
occasions I had been there and my reply was yes. I do take into account this
is a restaurant and not a pub or club.
Eric and myself have had our differences on his thoughts about the type of
venue we do our Karaoke at. He has very strong view points on the way he
does things, which you learn to agree not to disagree.
I always try to sing to enjoy myself not caring if I sound the best I could,
I was not there to prove I can sing but to mix with other Karaoke hosts and
families.
I have been to places where I wouldn't bother getting up to sing as the
sound has been so bad, this is not the case here.
I suppose I look at it from another view, if it is the owner that asks the
host to sort his sound out, he may have to listen, but seens that he is the
owner, why should he care. He still has a full restaurant on the other
Karaoke nights, this was a one off situation.

One other point, yes in his earlier posts, Eric said that a roster would be
organised at the beginning of the night, he apologised for forgetting this,
but again on the day when you have other things going around in your head,
one of us could have gone forward and helped by doing this. I personally
feel he was worrying about whether people had been served their meals etc
etc he is the co-owner of the restaurant and his sister had left after the
main diners were finished.

At the end of the day, to those who have now been reading all these posts,
you maybe a little intrigued by the Malaya Restauant and it's owner, enough
to pop down for a meal and Karaoke.

Enuff said.
