From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hey Ric T and others

Should Karaoke comps be about performance and audience reaction ? or about the quality of the singing and enjoyment?
Not all styles of music or songs are crowd involving, I believe it was you who sang 'My Funny Valentine' a lovely song and you sang it very well. As a slow ballad it doesn't involve the crowd at all, neither does 'The Prayer' which I sang.
Both great songs, but not going to win in terms of crowd involvment.
Maybe we need to change our songs lol...

Perhaps we should determine what Karaoke is about, and competitions should be based on that.
Is Karaoke (socially speaking) even about how good people sing ? or just about having a go and enjoying yourself? anything else,
like singing very well or dancing or crowd involvement or costumes and props, is cream on top.

What are people's thoughts?
What is Karaoke ?
How should Karaoke competitions be judged ?
