| From the Where2sing.com forum: KWC 2008 Vic Grand Final – An extended Review – Part II
One Finalist failed to show, so there were actually only 19 Finalists. I was made aware that one person failed one of the qualifying conditions (not an Aussie) – so happens that he’s one of the Matthew Flinders’ representatives – so had to be replaced by at the last minute by the 3rd Placegetter from the Matthew Flinders Venue Final, Penny “K” Nicholas – more about this later in Part III – this is one heck of a story!
Some great singers among the 19 Finalists, but the same old same old tired comp-songs and some not-too-smartly-chosen comp-final songs!! But to my reckoning, only 2 standouts – a Peter Jenkins from The Mountain View Hotel (who sang Mika, and Jon Bon Jovi), and of course, maybe I am biased, “our own” Matthew Flinders’ replacement Finalist Penny “K” (who sang Alannah Miles and Sarah Mclauglan).
Had a brief chat with Teresa from The Knox Club before the results and she agreed with me that Peter J was the standout. We were right. Peter J won, and Penny came second, amidst wild cheers and applause when the announcements were made!
Great karaoke entertainment. Great results. Well done Nat and Matt for a stirling effort, for putting on a smooth flowing Show!
PS: Criticism to the Venue Matt Flinders for scheduling it on a night when things had to come o a rather abrupt ending – the “muscles” were forcing people off their seating arrangements and removing the furniture while the Judges tally their scores. As soon the results were announced, the resident DJ slammed on a deafening disco mix of ABBA songs that drove the karaoke patrons straight out the door, and the waiting clubbing sect onto the dancefloor where a minute ago we were seating on! Total disrespect for the karaoke ….
