Kieran

Let me apologise for any comments I made that appeared to misrepresent you. I am trumpeter and only recently pianist and vocalist (like probably 20 months). I never felt threatened or made to feel bad about your comments with regards to image. I was pointing out the realities of the industry, like you mentioned, and saying that shouldn't stop anyone from doing what they love to do.

I think you are an amazing talent, and am disappointed to hear about how you have been treated by the industry. I believe like Rob Deal, that you have a talent, that goes beyond karaoke, and a versatility you say that can sing many styles (unfortunately we get boxed by the songs we do at karaoke - I too don't only sing 3 Tenors type songs). Assumptions get made sometimes, and so we pull out our best songs at competitions. Friday was my second comp, and song choice and crowd involvement, I am learning, are an important thing for Karaoke comps. You, Joe, Rachel and Matt did that fantastically on Friday night.
My goal is to gain confidence and refine performance skills, just as you have done, and get to a point where I can work at music completely, making a living at what I love doing, instead of doing other jobs like we have to do currently. Clubs I see are a starting point, I know a quite a few people who have started there. I like you, and all of us, enjoy connecting with people, and providing enjoyment for others through our music. I know you don't want to get labeled only as a Club Singer, or making the wrong choice if you sing in musicals. It is a building block,or a stepping stone. I am learning there is nothing wrong with good old fashioned hard work, frustrating as it may be, in the music industry.

I too have come to Sydney from another city, so don't have too many contacts here either.
I do play in a rock covers band, and sing BVs in the band, our lead singer has been in the industry for years, toured the USA even.
Unfortunately he too was shafted by record company management in the US, who were taking his band's royalties and promoting another band.
There is too much of that happening, but don't let that stop you following your dreams, and keep on trying.
Any assistance I can provide musically, let me know. I don't know Rob Deal, but guys like him, Joe, or even the lead singer of the band I am in can give you some helpful hints on the music industry.
You also have a blessing there with your supportive wife, never take her for granted.

Again, I apologise if I unintentionally misrepresented you in the forum, the advice you gave me on Friday was much appreciated.
Thank you for clarifying things here. You are greatly talented, and I wish you all the best.
