From the Where2sing.com forum:

I noticed on boiling point the following gripe “Christmas is coming, and we all have so much more spare time to go singing. We've got time off work, money in our pockets, and a partner to drag around. So it's got to be a great time for all the karaoke venues. So what do they do? Cancel their karaoke over Christmas. I think we should all look carefully at the venues who do this, and remember how they treat us. Then look at the venues who may not have exactly the very best equipment or sound, but who care enough to look after us whether it's Christmas or not”.
May I say from a host’s point of view that it is not the host’s decision in most cases but the venue managements to suspend or cancel Karaoke over the festive season.
A lot of venues and I’m talking metro, not holiday, city or beach suburbs are very, very, quite at Christmas time and the new year as regulars patrons that are on holidays take off for a well deserved break or holiday.
I know this from experience where we ran Karaoke over the Christmas break but only attracted a handful of people, because, as the regulars put it when they returned “we went away”.
To boycott a venue simply because they have canned Karaoke for say a two week period over Christmas will not harm the venue in the end but only the host.
Should the venue decide to stop Karaoke completely through lack of patronage you have lost Karaoke for 52 weeks a year and not just 2 and having Karaoke 50 weeks a year in my opinion is better than none.
Kind Regards
Kev
