From the Where2sing.com forum:

I read the Copyright news of Karaoke in part of China.
A friend, told me that centuries ago there was no such thing as copyright on songs.
Do many people know that even the old standard'Happy bithday to you...'
is copyighted by someone in the US.
She added that people shared songs for the LOVE of it,nowadays many will be sharing songs
for the MONEY of it.
I feel that on the one hand ,it's fair enough that there is a natural desire to make a living by doing only what you like to do.
BUT! When I found some really definitely original sounding songs such as Leonard Cohen who has released /performed a string of albums ,from the late 1960s to the present day;as original as so many songs were in the early days of Rock n Roll such as Elvis,BillHaley etc, while they may had their managers, they allowed plenty of new-song excitement.
But now?
Especially since the last decade,It's very apparent to me that the managers have 99% of claim, as to what they'll sing, like, change one or two notes and you're supposed to feel something like 'F****n' top stuff!
No wonder, most of the singers and managers are s****ing themselves, in case more and more people, will truly wake up ,and find that 'Hey,Yo! they're only two or three notes different in this song, as the number one song from last week's.And only the same anount of hairs look different. All f****ng clones!'

No wonder they worry about copyright.Too easy to 'compose' another song!
BORING!
Perhaps some sense and feeling will one day, override greed to how it was centuries ago.
God speed that day!
