| From the Where2sing.com forum: MA: That's what I've always wondered and the only thing I've come up with is this: Karaoke is paid for by drinking patrons (unless you can come up with another business paradigm that has a similar cash flow for a venue) and really, what time of day are people more likely to do this? The only reason why Ed Castle on a Sunday became anywhere near viable (despite being cancelled) is because of a core group of 5 or 6 cocktail and jug drinking singers. Without those patrons, an afternoon karaoke gig remains out of reach. I really think Monday/Tuesday night/Sunday afternoon karaoke gig is by and large a pipe dream because of this reason. The only successful gigs in these slots are able to operate independent of your usual clientele who need to be at work the following day (Scary Canary & backpackers being a prime example).
