From the Where2sing.com forum:

Am I for real? Hang on I'll take a quick look in the mirror.. yep seem to be there... people are responding to my messages etc so either I'm a bloody good AI, or yes, I am real... I can't recall when I first joined/participated in your site, but the listing part was certainly available for perusal, I believe I even added a listing myself at some stage (If memory serves for a place called Rourkes Drift, that ceased Karaoke over 12 months ago), your database has been built up over time by people such as myself who are avid fans of karaoke and prepared to add their data to your database. Interestingly your website still didnt answer the query I had in regards to a particular venue in Adelaide, I still need to call the venue to ascertain if it is running next Monday night. As I see it David, your website is akin to whitepages.com.au, or yellowpages.com.au, the ability of the general populace to 'read' the information should be paramount, as too the ability to read the forums, (something I seem to be unable to do at present, apparently my posting priveledges have been revoked and strangely enough this also seems to remove my priveledges to read, I would like to see what responses have been made to another posting I made re your 'gong show' posting). I find this comment "and those who don't value the work of others are not inflicted on karaoke venues" in particular to be very bad taste. The 'remember me' tick box is only good if accessing the site from one particular computer, if accessing from various sites it becomes extarneous. Yes I am living in the NT, (but I am not 'from' here). BTW do these two FAQ entries still hold true? Q. What is a Guest? A. A person who visits W2S without Signing In. Just like the person who pops into a pub but doesn't have a drink. Q. What is a SWD? A. This is a Serial Water Drinker, a person who goes to karaoke but regularly drinks free water. Or the person who Signs In to W2S regularly but doesn't subscribe. Please come and drink water, enjoy the site, but subscribe if you want to be treated to all the karaoke your heart desires. Cheers, Rob.

REPLY from David
You continue to make an extremely strong case for keeping the gig listings exclusively for those who see value in them, and who subscribe. To suggest that those who use the listings, but contribute no more than the occasional word, or indeed pure rubbish, and who obviously save both money and time by viewing the listings but who are unable or unwilling to subscribe, is to suggest that those of us who use our time, expertise and education to provide such resources should cater to the lowest denominator. Experience has taught me that this element of society cannot be helped - if given something for free they still cannot put it to use, and that's why the considerable work and time that I put into where2sing.com on a daily basis is reserved for those who see value in the listings, who consequently will support the venues they visit by being paying customers rather than by drinking free water, and who will contribute information of value back to this website. In answer to your question about whether you listed Rorke's Drift - nope, the contribution you made was by saying it was no longer running. However, you have asked on the forum to be told some competition results, and recently made a comment on the forum, in response to the feature story, that Rorke's Drift used to have a gong-style show. An effort, whilst appreciated, which is hardly comparable with my running of the site on a daily basis - and hardly the sort of amount of information that is going to build a database of the size of W2S. Thank you for likening W2S to White Pages or Yellow Pages in value.
