A Holiday to Remember
Tricia and I had the opportunity lately to combine a birthday visit to my parents with a whirlwind trip to Sydney’s karaoke scene. Well, what a fantastic trip we had! We met and were able to put faces to names of some of the friends we have made online in FB and Where2sing. We flew into Sydney from Melbourne on Wednesday morning, picked up our flash hire car and headed out to Parramatta to our accommodation and promptly got lost. Do any of you know how many No Right turn signs, on major intersections, there are in Sydney?? One argument within 3 mins of getting in the car, two stops and the purchase of a street directory later we arrived in Parramatta to a lovely one bedroom apartment that was close to everything. With a couple of hours to kill before KARAOKE we went to Westfields for a little shopping, and got lost again. but with the help of a friendly local who personally took up a few levels, across a car park down another level we found Coles, we shopped and could not find the same exit we entered on (this should have been the one time Tricia should have insisted we go her way as she was right for once) but we finally made it back to our apartment. We tidied up and out to Kev’s Karaoke at Peakhurst we went, we only got a little lost this time due to more no right turns.

All the comments we have heard about Kev and the Peakhurst are right on the money, Great sound, good song selection and a bevy of very good singers all supportive and there for a good time, it must be the name Kev but he’s as nutty as me, a bit more laid back (but then he is older lol) and a whole lotta fun. We met so many people that night both W2S’ers and F/B buddies that I will wait till the end of this to thank you all. Thanks Kev for an awesome night and the Bundy flag which we have put to good use. The $8 steaks were very nice and bar staff excellent. Totally buzzed and chattering away like a couple of magpies we finally went to sleep about 3.30am to be up at 8am so I could go to an appointment (work related not psychiatric hahaha).

Very little rest then out again so Tricia could take a trip around her old stomping grounds, all of which have totally changed in 20 years or so. We ended up at the Blacktown RSL for tea before going to Jeff’s gig at the Brewhouse in Lalor Park. If you ever find yourself in this area on a Thursday night I highly recommend you go to the RSL for the $15 all you can eat chinese and roast buffet, it was delicious. What can I say about Jeff, Hmmmmm......... FUN, Fun, and more fun (and the bugger made me host), He sat us at a VIP table with drinks on the house and all the regulars we met online for company. His Bose system gives a good sound and he has a great show I would recommend (not to the faint hearted LOL) and no Jeff and I are not related. There were some quality singers that were a pleasure to listen to, Sorry to Tania for spoiling your song for you (hehehe). Thanks for a fantastic night Jeff and all, especially the awesome bar staff you guys are great.

4am sleep time and up at 9 we headed off to meet Rob Deal of Everything Entertainment, What a genuine nice guy and chock full of information that we are still processing. Thanks again for the coffee and the help. Late lunch and a bit of a rest then off to Robs show, just down the road at the Workers Club. Met some very friendly regulars, sang a couple songs, nice gear and great sound, HUGE song list and a very smooth show, oh and good food too. No photos allowed at this venue, which was disappointing (shhhh we got a couple in though hehehe). We stayed for 2 hours then headed out to Adams tavern opening night and another of Jeffs Show, said our good byes and were stoked, 2 quality shows in one night. Well that was Sydney, 57 hugs (Pat’s were the best lol) and 4 karaoke shows in 3 nights, totally awesome.
With a good 4 and a half hours sleep we headed for Newcastle Belmont area to catch up with good friends Greg and Sue from Celebrity Karaoke, whom we met on a P&O karaoke cruise (which was outstanding to say the least). Guess what ? We got lost thanks to Gregs directions, but he does give excellent phone navigation. We went to a wine tasting and the dinner at the club where the gig was, great food a few drinks and a whole lot of karaoke. It was a fantastic show as usual, good singers and lots and lots of country music (what was that you said Greg… people in Newy don’t sing country). Sue and Greg are the some of the nicest people we know and we thank them so much for their hospitality, genuine warmth and opening up their home to us, I hope we can return the same in the future.

We met so many people I hope I don’t miss any but if I do let me know, here goes. Thanks to, Rob Deal, Kev Pinch, Jeff Fitzgerald, Greg and Sue, Pat and Ray, Tania and Legend, Carol, Stevo, Jason, Anthony, Rock God, Kylie, Amanda, Simone, Johnny K, Wayne and Lee, Helen and Bob, John Lennon (Dave), Rachel and Colin, James, Maggie and Shirley, Chris and Sue, Cathy, Christine and all the rest. We had a fantastic trip and hope you all come up to return the visit
