| From the Where2sing.com forum: Saw Karaoke The Musical on Saturday Night at Enmore in Sydney.If it gets a rerun or goes to other States-don't miss it.(See in the news for a review.)It was fun and was fairly accurate in covering the aspects of what we love and enjoy,especially that it's not all about the voice but the entertainment package-something to remember for those who go in comps and think they are robbed.
Afterwards we went to a hotel in a nearby suburb for karaoke-one with a good W2S reputation and it was a fun night...BUT.We don't get the chance much to go to a show as singers/audience and its a real learning curve to see what can easily tick the punters off.There was a girl who by the time we sang our second song song had sung her two songs AND TWO DUETS.The argument of providing moral support to the other singers was out the door cause she just dominated the duets.She actually works for the host sometimes and obviously had some mental hold over her.Also when round 2 started she and some other regulars were put up first then heaps of others before we were put up again.If old singer /new singer is the system-best to be consistent.
This has no effect on us because we were just visiting from Newcastle--but the host didn't know this,we could have been new regulars.For the couple with us it was a real eye opener and they now fully understand why we run our systems as we do and that being a regular doesn't give you an unfair rotation/song numbers advantage.It they had just moved in to that area-they would have been looking for a new venue despite the fact it was upbeat and fun.
As I said it was a refresher for us and I hope just a little advice to the host that a few little points can make a good show a great show.
