I wonder whether you can clarify for me the subject of websites displaying videos of singers performances at karaoke gigs?
Is it correct that a website that displays, in part or full, video or sound or both, songs sung by karaoke singers at gigs, needs to have a blanket APRA licence as well as permission from the karaoke manufacturers such as Capital Karaoke and Sunfly?
And what about when the video is uploaded to YouTube but is shown on a site such as Where2sing.com by having an embedded link? Does the responsibility then rest entirely on YouTube, or does the diplaying website such as W2S have the responsibility to maintain a blanket licence from APRA and manufacturers' permissions as above?
I'm also wondering about the legality of singers' performances presently displayed on many Australian hosts' websites - are they really paying a licence fee to APRA of several cents for every visitor to the site, as APRA has previously informed me would be payable?
