ITS ENTERTAINMENT........... By Mike Rophone...
OK so I guess its time to tell my W2S friends what happened in FIJI . Had a great trip ( and fall )
We had to go to Fiji for a good friends wedding and the first couple of days we both enjoyed relaxing in the sun.It was the first holiday Ive had in about five years so I was looking forward to it.On the third day the bride and groom arrived and turned up to our unit overlooking the beach on the sand. After a few cocktails beers and spirts the groom climbed a coconut tree and pick a coconut off then bought it onto the balconey where we were drinking some duty free southern comfort.
I gave the coconut a name ( Wilson ) after a few drinks the cocout was casted out off the balconey on to the sandy beach below.
People that know e could understand that I am not one to let Wilson be alone and not e part of the party. So the half of a second of stupidity was born as I lauched myself oof the balconey over the garden and lande with a mighty crack on both of my heals onto the compacted sand below. The area I Ianded was as hard as concrete due to being the road the golf buggys use.
Both feet made a huge crack and Oh the pain. Still I stumbled of to get wilson pick him up and carried him back to the unit.
After that I dropped to my knees and crawled back up the stairs to go back in side.
I was in shock and still effected by the drinks as I climbed onto the bed. I got on the phone and ordered some ice to wrap up my feet.Being Fiji time it took a good hour of phone calls to get someone to bring the ice to the room. After that it was time for every one to go and have dinner so I told them to go and I wouls stay in the room. After a while the drink started to wear off and the pain start to say hello to my feet. It was a killer as I layed there hurting and hungry for food. The room had two king size beds full of pillows so I used them to make tracks around the room in order to get to the bathroom and back out to the balconey for a smoke.
Did not sleep much at all that night and was feling a bit silly and not understood that I was not longer a spring chicken anymore.
The next day my freind found a wheel chair at the resort in a store room and he bought it up to my room so I could go and have some breakfast. The wheel chair had two flat tyres so it was also on Fiji time and trying to get anywhere in a hurry was a bit hard.
After breakfast I climbed into the pool at the resort and stayed there all day floating around in pain. 12 o clock came and in was time to self medicate at the pool bar. I did not want to see a doctor as I knew that I broken something and xrays would only show me what I already knew. The rest of the holiday was filled with large fijians carrying me around the resort .
At this stage wth two broken feet I was not going to stop that letting me have a sing so wheeled myself up to the band spoke to the band members at the resort and dragged my sorry ass up onto the stage sat on a speaker to sing a few songs with them. This was my moment and I loved it.
It was time to go home and that was going to be a journey in itself. On to a golf buggy carried to the boat , carried off the boat onto the bus , off the bus onto a wheel chair at the airport,Pushed around the airport by staff onto the plane. Arriving in Sydney back onto a chair pushed out to the car. I was beginning to feel like luggage.
Note to self . Your are not a spring chicken . Coconuts rather stay on the beach and do not need to be saved. Drinking and jumping is not a good move. wheelchairs work better with air in the tyres. Going on a holiday is about putting you feet up not busting them.
Your wife must really love you and should of drowned you in the pool. It is not worth busting your feet to get special treatment at the airport. Next time use the stairs. The coconut does not need me to be a coconut as well.
Anyway ....... Big thanks to my good freinds for helping me cover gigs whle I was away. You all know who you are...Jeff
