The intention of the Top 10 list on W2S is to give karaoke singers a guide to the karaokes that are most liked by other singers - it is for this reason that the list is promoted as 'where2sing.com visitors' favourite karaoke venue' rather than its being an objective measure of the 'best' karaoke in Australia.
Having said that, it defeats the purpose to have a lesser karaoke artificially voted up - and I pay close attention to those that reach the Top 10 to ensure that they represent fair voting. Host-encourged voting is fine, but I check that the gig is as described, and that it is not simply a 'voted by mates' gig without other merit. Some time back,. Rovics in Brisbane encouraged their singers to vote and thus pushed their gig high in the Top 10, and when I visited I was able to see that the gig accurately represented Rovics' claims; it was for that reason that I visited your gig, and noted that sound quality, hosting and popularity were far from your description.
I'm then faced with the question of how to deal with a gig where the host's workmates, these being people who are new to karaoke and have come to W2s for no other purpose than to vote up their workmates' gig, should be accommodated so as not to reduce the value of the W2S Top 10 for other karaoke singers.
If this were a problem that W2S faced routinely, then I would find a solution in re-coding. But since it's a one off, it makes more sense to address the problem as an isolated case, and that's what I have done.
The people voting for this venue are your workmates, yourself and you host. Your gig is not as described, and would probably not attract votes from independent karaoke singers. If you continue to seek ways around the W2S system to artifically boost your gig in the Top 10 list, then my last resort would be to bar this gig from the voting.
I hope I have replied in sufficient detail that you understand that I do not suffer foolish behaviour that devalues the information on W2S.
