From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hello to everyone who might be reading this. I thought I would talk about a new subject today and that is when people with cold and flu go to karaoke shows get up and sing and spread their millions of little germs all over the microphones!!

I don't know what it is like in the rest of Australia at present, but here in Sydney, well today it is cool, humid and raining, after a hot and humid day yesterday. Perfect breeding ground for germs. With this kind of weather, people can get chills which unfortunately can turn to colds, or worse, the flu. I can well remember a few years ago a singer coming into a karaoke show and he had the worst case of the flu that I have ever seen. He should have known better that to have come to karaoke, he was that sick. Yet he got up and sang and in the process, everyone (including me) who sang after him, got the flu. One lady I know still suffers from the after effects of this flu as it appears to have affected her throat in some way.

What needs to happen is that ALL karaoke shows should have a can of disenfectant spray that the host or panel operator sprays on the microphones at the beginning and end of the shows. This does help to elimate some of the germs. I shall have to check out the equipment of the show that everyone on this website now knows that I am associated with (but don't work for) and see if there is a can of disenfectant spray. If there isn't, then I shall rectify it and hand the owner the bill!!!

What do other singers think of this? Do the shows that you go to spray their microphones before and/or after a show?
