From the Where2sing.com forum:

a good example of one of my earlier statements happened tonight at Brighton le Sands RSL. A regular singer arrived late after the books had closed and unfortunately we had to tell him the same thing ......sorry but if someone pulls out we will try to slot you in .He thanked us and sat down to watch and have a few drinks, after waiting for nearly 2 hours someone pulled out and we were able to get him in (don't forget 30 singers takes 2 hours).
On this occasion it worked out well for the singer and we were glad to get him in, But even if he didn't get to sing he would have accepted it.
TMOZ on the issue of attend 4 times..Yes that is all I state on my website but what do you class as an attendance? is a hi I'm here goodbye after 15minutes good enough? or do we say sing a song then leave is acceptable. I think common sense should apply here and in my opinion none of those senarios would be acceptable unless there was a very good reason to leave. I once had a girl who wanted to sing the first song of the night then leave but also to be marked off as attending ....Why? to meet friends at another Karaoke SHE HAD TO BE KIDDING. I would like to here other peoples opinions on this subject as I can see the venues side of things if they say attend 4 times I assume they mean a big part of a 4 hour show.

TMOZ you stated that you had trouble with a previous comp run by someone else because you are a host, I didn't know you were but it wouldn't matter to me. Being a host or an operator doesn't transform you into a great singers and if people run Karaoke Shows properly you would sing less than the punters do.
