A lot of shows run as you said, 1 song at the beginning of the round if they want to sing, and help others if required
The fairness of the show wasn't in question, I even hung around to listen to other singers if you read my post. I would have as a host considered putting in a singer if the round had finished, and it was the last song of the night, rather than be seen as favouring one of the regulars.
The fairness of extra rules being added to the competition 'rule' was what got me annoyed, and has happened elsewhere.
From what Ace was saying this was done by the director's of the comp, their relationship to the club is unknown to me.
Personally I think a Competition should be run differently than a normal show. I think that works better, with communication, and still a time for regular singers to sing a song. I think this could have been managed better.
Bad club/pub management/staff can sour people's enjoyment of a show. I say that as a host and a singer.
