Yep i do disagree somewhat to your last post because if you ' Narrow the scope ' too much ( No old tunes or karaoke faves sung in comps & also show & theatre songs ) you are left with a Pop/ rock & r&b urban Comp ( i can't see enough people singing country songs to fill the ' books ' lol ) , , not that i personally would care too much as i can take music anyway it is served up but i can see some singers would not be happy at all and perhaps the audience may get a little bore / restless especially the over 25's & many may stay away
and this may see the ' bar turnover ' down at the end of the Comp and indeed though out the series which in turn can't be good
Yet perhaps your idea may just be the perfect vehicle for the right venue , especially if they are attracting a mostly young patronage already but i can't see it happening on a wide scale
