| From the Where2sing.com forum: A while back Kev, who holds the licence to record singers, was kind enough to let me have some samples - recorded as he does off the desk does, in my opinion loses the atmosphere of a karaoke gig. I have since, in contrast, recorded a few seconds of a wide variety of singers in a variety of gigs for evaluation, and although the quality is far inferior to Kev's recordings, I believe those made from the middle to back of the audience are much more flattering to the singer, and much more interesting for the atmosphere apparent during the songs.
It was a video of Johnny Burrows at, I think, Chatswood RSL, that first gave me the idea that audience noise was beneficial to a performance - as I was able to compare this with another of his performances that was professionally recorded at a comp. I'd be very interested to see clips of singers, though perhaps 30 seconds or so would be all I'd want.
