From the Where2sing.com forum:

From those FAQS copyright law made sense to me. Did you know that some years ago I wanted to start PROMOTING my songs..but I wanted to do it LEGALLY. So I was thinking of setting up my own WEBSITE (see FAQS about PROMOTING your songs)with the songs. I contacted APRA so as to do everything legal. It wanted 5 dollars per song per annum on the songs as displayed on the website I was gonna display 10 songs each time...for 50 dollars per annum fee (for royalties). However what made give up the idea is not the money (that was pretty cheap)...but the "red tape" where I had to contact the band on EACH karaoke disc...the composers etc..in order to note them on documents which APRA were going to send me. APRA wanted this for the purpose of paying the royalties to the right people. Regards

Happy to hear that the FAQ did make sense, and that you recognise that they are not the fully story. Naturally I didn't know that you checked with APRA some years ago about copyright and found that permissions need to be granted and paid before you can use songs for your own purposes - I guess I'm therefore a little puzzled as to why we've just have this conversation on the legality of your using songs to upload to websites.
