| From the Where2sing.com forum: I thought we'd already heard from Barry at Capital that Ray sent him an anonymous letter on the same subject, so it would be only fair to presume that anonymous letters/emails were sent to the KWC organisers... Australia? Finland? I don't see this as a momentary dummy spit on a W2S forum, and I don't see this as an attempt to lift the profile of karaoke. Sorry.
I'm also intrigued that Ray wasn't a competitor this year, and thus had no axe to grind. Was this because of being a finals competitor last year, and thus being already ruled ineligible this year... I can't recall whether he competed last year, and I have only vague memory of the KWC rules.
I do agree with Ray that there's an opportunity to lift the public perception of karaoke by KWC winners making it known that they are regular pub karaoke singers. I recall last year's winner in several interviews giving the impression that he just happened to be in the pub when it was running heats that night and that friends suggesting he 'had a go', whereas I believe he was one of the regulars in that venue, and a regular karaoke competitor in that area. The same altered impression sounds like it's being given by this year's winner - perhaps we just need to remember that these are comp chasers, not social singers, and they are perhaps a little embarrassed by being associated with pub karaoke.
