With all due respect DJ Jules, the things you listed that keep people coming back to your gig did not mention having multiple copies of the same song so that people can choose which version they want. I make no apologies in advocating cutting duplicates; take for example in our instance, The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. We have 12 different copies of that song from 6 different manufacturers. Now, the mathematically inclined readers can see that this averages out to 2 copies from each manufacturer (which isn't strictly the case as some we only have 1 whereas a few we have up to 4 different copies from the same manufacturer. I can not for the life of me understand how someone can justify making a case to having all of those copies. You pick the one that most resembles the original recording from Kenny Rogers and you ditch 11 copies. If someone came up to me upset that I only had the Soundchoice version of The Gambler and not the, say, Music Maestro version, I would honestly scratch my head and wonder why so much time and effort was being invested in what really amounts to such a relatively unimportant concept.

You mention that I should communicate with my punters to know what they want. You might be surprised to know that most singers don't know what they want, they just want to sound good, the music to be good and for them to have fun. What they don't know is that I'm making sure that I'm giving them the Sunfly Gold version of Red Red Wine because it's one of the few versions without the rap in the middle that no one knows or that I'm not giving them the Sunfly version of Moondance because it doesn't have the instrumental break in the middle the singer needs to change key for the last part of the song.

It is actually possible to give people what they want without showering them with choice.
