I listened to an interview on radio a week or so ago with Jimmy Barnes and he was asked about his ability to scream out songs and if it caused damage to his vocal chords. His reply was that you have 2 main vocal chords and several secondary chords of which he uses the main ones to talk with and the secondary ones to sing/scream. He also stated that there were days he could talk but could perform on stage perfectly. Apparently this was been confimed by a leading Surgeon who scanned Jimmy's throat with a camera when he had laryngitus. Jimmy also stated that there are very few singers who have this 'gift'. I'll bet Brian Johnson out of AC/DC uses the same technique.
