| From the Where2sing.com forum: I think what's probably more likely is a combination of saturation reporting (nowadays you hear about every single alcohol related act whereas 20 years ago, it still happened, but you didn't hear about it) and the way youth choose to spend their time. Bars rather than pubs, multi-shot slammers rather than a schooner of beer that would take you at least 10 min to drink, an exhaustible amount of things to do at 2am. 20 years ago, what was there to do, what was even open at that time of the morning? Now you can bar hop, get a kebab, hit Maccas, get a Magnum from 7-11 and everyone's still out because they're doing what you're doing.
It's simply an extension of the 'immediate satisfaction' society that has developed to quench an impatient population. Who's to blame? All of us. Will it change? Not on your life. This is the age we live in now and rather than try and curb everyone's behaviour in order to deal with the few sods who can't handle it, I say we just round them up and stick them on an island with a film crew and see who gets killed in what order.
