From the Where2sing.com forum:

LB ..What erks me is the person that has been drinking somewhere else and comes along with say 20 minutes and demands a song.
They are told no sorry the books are full.
Likewise when we have had 40 or even 50 singers we close the books off and say to someone 'If there is a vacancy we will put you in but its not looking good'.
We try to at least give everyone a song but at the end of the day those that constantly come late and I'm talking about with 30 minutes to go are told come early next week.
Yes I also look at rewarding those that come early with an extra song if we can fit it in and its in the rotation ..because after all those are the people that have been sitting there for over 4 hours generally, drinking, spending money, so that Karaoke will continue on in the Venue.
I often laugh at Hosts and singers that say 'New people should be slotted in within 30 minutes of arriving'
Sometimes we might be still in the 1st round 2/3 hours into the Show.
On my last night @ Peaky I will be opening the song list @ 7.30 and once we get to 50 singers the books will be shut.
I will then take singing slips off people and I will place them in a hat and will draw names out that will be placed every 3 singer in the 2nd round.
That then rewards those that have sung early and might stay till the end and is the fairest system I could come up with.
Of course there was a suggestion form Music Addict to have one speaker and mic in one corner and another set in another corner and alternate between both :P
