From the Where2sing.com forum:

I remember that LB started hosting with a very fixed idea of how rotations should be run - that he has now decided that flexibility allied with a bagful of skills that can be brought to bear in different situations during the night is interesting, especially as his entry into hosting has been followed by a steady rise the business ladder to now head EE's business for Rob.. which gives him considerable credibility.

Although it is often said that 'every gig is different', it seems from hosts' comments that actually nearly all gigs are the same in that each one encompasses a number of different situations. So meaning that successful hosts (however that can be defined) are those who can apply the most appropriate skill to the situation current at that time of the night in their gig.

My observation about karaoke, and about this debate, is that it is the involvement of so many people, and the unpredictability of this, that makes karaoke so interesting (entertaining). Non-ending cr*p singing is boring; superb singer after superb singer also can be boring; the intermingling of different styles, qualities and ages I find entertaining. And for that reasonj alone I like venues where a new singer is up within about half an hour of ariving. Chatswood RSL seems to me to have just about the perfect balance between regulars and newcomers in the rotation management.

So then how to accommodate my third or fourth song? Actually, as long as I've sung once, perhaps twice, I'm quite happy not to sing again in the night as long as the karaoke is entertaining. Sufficiently entertaining, and I'll forego singing even once in the night - for example as in the many times I used to go to Sydney's Covent Garden Hotel. My point being that I think to treat every singer the same in their desires is as dangerous as inflexibility in rotations.
