In the New year I'm going to give the Laptop a whirl.
With time up my sleeve and no set Venues I will be trying out Karaoke from a Laptop.
As far as songs being out of sink the worst ones on disc are the SCDG'S and as LB quite rightfully said some Sweet Georgia Brown discs are just not right.
At the end of the day most people no matter what the format is or even what the sound is like will have fun regardless.
It's the Karaoke Tragics that generally are the ones that complain, but then again some complain on just about everything.
Before I got my very 1st JVC Triple draw player I use to run VCD discs from my computer at Parties and the sound was cheap and nasty though 60 watt speakers...did people complain ...no they all had a great time and asked me to do more parties for them.
If you get a Host that says next next next next and is as dry as the Simpson Desert and people dont have fun then no matter what system they have it will still be awful.
