From the Where2sing.com forum:

Billy T... I guess that what I'm saying is that computer-run and disc-run don't necessarily preempt the quality of the show. And I'd even question whether computer-run means 'cheap' any more - perhaps it did a couple of years ago when very few 'real' hosts looked at anything except discs, but not now when it's so much easier to set up a computer based system legally. And remembering that CAVS also has to be counted as computer based.

But that the major difference is the ease with which a computer system can be used, this being the reason that many such gigs have just one person, or that if one person is setting up alone that he will tend to choose computer-based. I don't think that the fact of computer-based gives much indication as to the quality of a show, but that the quality is much more dependant on the quality of the host or hosts. My favourite show for sound and overall hosting quality is Noose Surf Club, and that's computer based (with two hosts).

I also wonder whether price is dependant on the type of setup, computer or disc, as I'd expect it to be based more on market forces; but with computer-based single host setups having a profit advantage. I think it would be hard for a disc host to justify changeover, but that new hosts entering the industry would have difficulty justifying other than a computer based system.
