I find its pretty customary for hosts to sing the last song of the night, only because it means they have complete control over the tone of how the night ends. I'd much rather sing the last song than have the last song be Close To You by The Carpenters for instance. There have been occasions where I've given up 'my song' because I've had to knock back a lot of people due to how busy we are as it just seems rude if I tell people no and then I do a song. More often than not though, I'll take the audience songs up to finish time and then have my last song starting in 'over-time'. I tend to not get any complaints that way.
