Thank you for those links. I'm going to see if any of the places you mentioned are still around. I already discovered this evening that one of them, Hardy's (which I had independently found through an internet search), closed about three years ago (that goes along with what you said about people here being very fickle and entertainment trends passing quickly), but based on your report from there, the closing of Hardy's is no great loss.

Glad to hear it all helped, and good luck in your search. I rate the Filipino area as one worth checking as Filipinos love to sing and love to party. I also remember now that I chased down some karaokes on Kowloon side, only to find that they were bars with entertainment but with the vague possibility of being able to sing if you asked nicely - but not really karaoke. Having said that, I think there would be a couple of streets away from the harbour on Kowloon side worth roaming, and you could find these by Googling for Kowloon and karaoke bars, then looking for several listed in the same street. If you can find several karaoke box type places in one street, there's a chance of also finding there an open bar, as these are generally viewed as being downmarket and unlikely to be listed on the web. If you're asking people, and struggling to define the type of place you're seeking, in China these are often called 'karaoke halls' - that may also help.
