| From the Where2sing.com forum: NSW, Queensland, etc all have pretty healthy karaoke industries and the free drinking water rule has been far wider enforced up there so even as a venue manager I'm not reaching for my letter opener to slit my wrists just yet
There is currently a loophole in the 'free water' requirements that venues that don't have the facilities to supply cold tap water can charge patrons a 'reasonable' amount for a bottle of water (but funnily enough most of these places have sinks and postmix dispensers, both of which can supply fresh cold water when required) so the new legislation will prevent those currently charging more for a water than some alcoholic beverages from continuing to rip patrons off
Bottom line is if a venue is supplying liquor and looking after it's patrons like it should by law then supplying a relatively small amount of water for patrons isn't going to send you broke, if it does you seriously need to look at your business model
We are probably going to have to agree to disagree on this topic but I'm just wondering are you really suggesting that venue managers in future are going to judge the feasibility of karaoke or other entertainment based on how much water they may need to give away ?
