| From the Where2sing.com forum: Kate: I applaud your energy and and enthusiasm for the KWC but it's hard to get past the fact that there are only a handful of people not on the comp circuit, that go to their local week in week out that would have the skill to properly compete in the KWC, so statistically, what I said stands in that the KWC isn't about rewarding the locals but about finding the jewel in the rough. Granted, it depends on how you define 'reward' but most people would define 'reward' as the act of giving a tangible prize.
There are many karaoke singers that deserve praise for their ability to entertain a crowd, a fair percentage of them wouldn't get very far in a competition setting. This isn't to cast aspersians on the singer, nor on the competition structure, just that they are from different worlds who should be able to co-habitate without diminishing the other.
