| From the Where2sing.com forum: I feel that MikeRophone was probably having a good natured dig, and not really seriously having a go at almost every other host in NSW. I guess, if you were a host like MikeRophone with 5 venues running KWC heats, wouldn't the temptation to 'have a go' also be a bit too good to resist?
Perhaps I should also say that I'm not a fan of competitions, and I know that's no secret, but I think the general good that KWC does for the profile and standing of karaoke outweigh the negatives such as not really directly rewarding the local social singer. As for benefits to the venue, I think KWC is a platform on which a venue and host can capitalise, rather than KWC being something that automatically and in itself are beneficial to the host and venue.
My real surprise with KWC is that it has not attracted a large corporate sponsor such as a bank , insurance company or airline - and that the event's control is still with karaoke enthusiasts. Bearing in mind that the price for each venue is just a few hundred dollars, and that's not for each week but for the entire run of weeks, it also seems remarkable to me that a small venue can be involved with such an international event for so little money. Where else could a venue run an event under a slogan such as 'Represent Australia - enter here for your chance to be the next Karaoke World Champion' for a fee of a few hundred dollars....
