| From the Where2sing.com forum: Vic: As has been mentioned several times by David, the W2S top ten isn't about the best gigs, it's about the most voted for by the people who visit. Chatswood RSL has a very loyal and passionate group of locals who will religiously vote for their venue. Not because it is empirically the best but because the patrons have a very strong emotional connection to it. It doesn't hurt that Garry & Di plug voting to the singers.
Thing is, there is no such thing as a list of criteria to determine the best gig. There are some obvious things like the clarity of voice on the mic by the host, the minimisation of time between singers and the crispness of the music coming out if the speakers but beyond that, there's very little that hosts would agree should be on such a list (least of all how a rotation should be run). Even if such a lust could be agreed upon by hosts, most patrons while at a venue would care little for them. I've seen gigs that succeed despite quality of equipment, songlist or even host; these gigs still get people through the door for varied reasons such as location, convenience and it's the local of a varied group of social circles.
Even when it comes down to determining what a good host amounts to, it really cones down to 'to each their own'. I've met some hosts who I personally think are attricious but they are loved by their regulars and in the end, what mire do you want?
