Barry: We now use the headphone jack at all of our venues and while I'm not an audiophile by any stretch, I haven't noticed any change in audio quality and I doubt many people would. The main reason for not using the external sound card is my personal philosophy of 'the less items in the chain, the less likely something will go wrong'. I've had a few occasions where I've accidentally bumped the USB lead, the sound card has lost power for a brief moment but when you stick it back in, the data pathway to the software generating the audio isn't automatically re-established, you have to shut down the program and re-establish. Lead comes out of the headphones jack, you just stick it back in.

With multi-host companies like ourselves, the less you have to train a new guy, the less likely some weird unexpected issue will come up that you'd be able to fix if you were in the room but stumps the newbie...
