| From the Where2sing.com forum: Music since around the late 50's was no longer only about '' the voice ''' , many things go into the ''' pot '' to make a ''' good singer '' or top line artist such as the message the artist were getting across hence the 60's folk era and '' anti-war '' message telling us about peace , love and respect for all people re ...Cat Stevens / Bob Dylan / John Lennon to name a few examples , before that we had Elvis / the Beatles /Jerry Lee Lewis / Fats Domino with great R'N'Roll that paved the way for 'rock '' as we know it today and the countless others over the years that have changed the ''' sound of music ''' , not all have been the '' greatest '' singers ever , then there is the ''' stage presents ''' of an artist , some artist and a few '' karaoke '' singers just naturally know how to ''' command '' the stage , Now with the invention of ''' MTV ''' , appearance and looks of the artist came very much to the fore , then there are just some who have just natural better than average entertaining abilities and are ''' Gifted ''' , so there is a lot more to it all than just a good voice , some have a more single determination to succeed than most others .
Sting is an out-standing artist and make no mistake about it he is a talented ' true ' Artist although much of his material is not my cup of tea .
Simon C ... Like him or not , This man knows his business very very well and he is ' spot-on with his opinions and knows what it take to make it in this music world these days ..
Sadly since perhaps the mid to late 90's the industry won't gamble ( for want of a better term ) on an artist , you either make a profit ( return on investment ) or its the ''' Door '' but before then they would invest in an artist and ''' hope '' that the artist in time would create ( record ) something that that would start making money down the track ...ie... Pink Floyd ''' Dark side of the moon ''' was there 4th Album ( if my memory is correct ) yet the other 3 Albums before where no were as good in production or '' sales '' but they were a '''' stepping-stone '' to there ''' great stuff '' we all know and love ....hey i could go on for ages here but i hope you all get my meaning ....
