From the Where2sing.com forum:

Barman: Ummm... okay, we're all going to take a breath here lol. Like I said, I would prefer all hosts to sing as least as possible and none of my venues tell me how I can and can't run my show.

Oh no wait, I tell a lie.

If a venue tells me that the show is cancelled for the week because they would prefer to televise State Of Origin with the sound up, do I tell them 'no, this is a weekly gig and I'll be coming regardless'? No, because the venue gets to decide what they want to do with the time. If a venue tells me that the Friday night 7:30 NRL game is not to be interrupted and I'm to start late because the team playing is from the venue's area do I tell them 'no, the advertised start time is 8pm and I'm going to start my show'? Of course not. The venue pays the bills and if I don't like it, the venue will be quick to remind me no doubt that there are other karaoke companies out there that will fill the void I leave.

The other side of the coin is that while I may not like that shows like this exist out there and while I may not want to run a show where the host sings 12 songs at the expense of singers, I acknowledge that there are venues out there that want that, people go to these shows (either because they enjoy it or so they have something to bitch about when they get home and get onto w2s) and despite my feelings on the matter, there is a market for it. Would I ever go to a show like that? No. Is the show meant to be for people like me? No. Am I missed at these places? The venue doesn't want me there, so that's a big fat no.

If a venue misreads their patrons desires then they get what they get but if a venue puts on a show that you and I don't like the idea of and it's profitable, who the hell are we to tell them not to do it?
