From the Where2sing.com forum:

Billy T: You're right, you have to judge when to finish Round One correctly or you end up behind the eight ball for the rest of the show. Unless there are a good twelve to fifteen singers with songs submitted before I start (which is extremely rare at my shows), I finish Round One at the one hour mark. I then start slotting in new singers depending on how many there are in an alternating pattern. This I find balances the needs of the new singer with the existing singer who got there early. The only thing worse than waiting two hours for your song is waiting two hours for your second song when a new singer puts their song down and is called up five minutes later, perpetually extending the length of the round.
