| From the Where2sing.com forum: FAREWELL TO A DIVA OF SORTS.....
Attended the final karaoke show at the Sly Fox, Enmore, last Friday night and what a great night was had by all. Anyone who has ever attended this show will know it was not a standard show. The Last night was no exception.
Known as a gay and Lesbian pub on particular nights and mixed on Fridays, The Mafi family have hosted this karaoke/family concert for nearly four years and have always put on a very entertaining night of karaoke, mini concerts and R n B dance breaks. Due to the clientele, it has always been a very interesting mix of 'performers' and the appreciation of the audience was noisy, rowdy and OTT. They loved everyone who got up to have a go!
Willy does wonderful corporate and club gigs as La Tina turner and la Shirley Bassey but to name a few. These Divas have always made appearances (without costume or wig) through out the years at The Sly Fox but were RESIDENT on this last night and every song Willy sang, and he sang LOTS (It's my Last F***in' Show, I can sing what I like!) was done in one or two styles. He had lots of his entertainment buddies there so the night was filled with wonderful singers, in essence, a Farewell Concert.
They ( they being Willy, Eddie and Maria ) never forgot the karaoke patrons who had supported their show all these years. They handed out a free drink voucher to every single singer and also pleased the crowd by giving them two or three songs in a row (I was one of the lucky ones who scored 3 in a row and all the family doing backing vocals!!) Some others weren't so 'lucky' but only one showed their disgust by glaring at me and others and complaining to the Tech. Of course, you know by now there was no point complaining!! It was their last show and they can do whatever the F***in' well like!! So Dennis (yes, we all know Dennis) left quite disgruntled on two counts. Only one song and no introduction to the song even though he instructed the tech to wait........Willy had other plans.
Many wonderful things happened through out the night ending with a rendition of 'We are Family' for anyone who could fit on the stage with 4 mics being passed around and the rest of the Pub dancing around the Stage. A great night!!!
I had a fantastic night out and Willy said he is going to come down to Grumpies in a couple of weeks and wreak havoc!! I can't wait! What a shock he will be to the regulars down there. I hope he does his version of 'Me and MR Jones'.
